LETTER: Thank you PC Palmer

Like many people, I recall the dreadful recent events regarding the attack on Westminster which resulted in the injury and death of innocent bystanders in that area.

I was shocked and horrified as no doubt many others were. The events came back to me when I read with sadness about PC Palmer’s funeral. His death and funeral must have been heartbreaking for his family, colleagues and friends; he certainly deserved an hero’s farewell.

I believe there was a short vigil at the police station in Crawley to commemorate PC Palmer’s untimely death and funeral. I must say a huge sorry that I did not attend, as somehow I had foolishly failed to register such an event – hence this letter.

Along with many others I send my condolences to the police officer’s family. I cannot begin to imagine how they must be feeling.

At least three visual reminders will stay will me regarding the attack on that day:

1. The sight of PC Palmer on the ground having been attacked and people trying desperately to help him. I need to say thank you to those people.

2. The sight of the Ahmadi ladies standing on the bridge as a sign of unity, grief and compassion. I need to say thank you to the Ahmedi community especially their women.

3. The many flowers and tributes lain in memory of all the victims.

I am proud that here in Crawley we get on well together regardless of race, culture or creed. It is so important that we live in harmony and respect for one another. Following such events in London, I believe we need to become even more stronger together regardless of race, culture or creed. Yes, there are times when the few can spoil it for the many, but we must remain strong together and move forward in peace and love.

The horrific attacks must not imprison us in fear, otherwise PC Palmer and the other victims, would have died in vain.

I encourage us to work together and become stronger together. One twig can be broken – a bunch of twigs together cannot.

So:
