LibDems failing to honour promises

In the interests of fairness the political views expressed must be commented upon.

Regarding the financial situation of the country, as a retired bank employee one can well understand why he chooses to ignore the role of the banks, and the huge sums it has cost to support them following the catastrophic results of irresponsible and avaricious policies. 

People tend to forget that had they not been supported we would have all suffered as savings and pension funds disappeared, and the financial structure of our country collapsed.

However, for the Liberal Democrats to use the financial situation for not honouring pre-election promises and pledges is dishonourable in the extreme for a party that has always prided itself on a liberal and supportive view of society. 

To join with a Conservative minority administration in policies designed to destroy the last vestiges of the Welfare State is unbelievable.

It is agreed that the last administration could have imposed changes in banking practices (something which the present Chancellor seems loath to do), they arose in the “greed is good” climate of the 80s.

Furthermore, the ‘Big Society’ is not a new concept, it was first mooted during the Victorian era of early industrialisation as an ameliorating factor for those suffering the worst extremes of robber baron industrialists and monied classes.
