Natasha's letter opened my eyes

I FELT I had to write in response to Natasha Finneran-Arms' letter (Gazette, October 15).

At first, when reading her letter, I agreed with the comments made by other people regarding Christmas getting earlier each year. I am one of the first to complain about the fact that all things Christmassy seem to turn up on the shelves earlier each year, usually before any Hallowe'en items can be found.

I couldn't have been more surprised, however, that by the time I had finished reading I had completely changed my perspective and agreed with Natasha. I had never looked at it that way before and in this day and age of monthly pay packets, Christmas "coming early" does allow us more freedom to spread the cost.

I get paid at the end of each month, but luckily, December's wages get paid a day or two before Christmas, but imagine if you didn't get paid before.

If you all wanted Christmas to "start" in November, say, you would have only one month's wages to buy all the things you would need. I still feel sympathy, however, for all parents of children who are too young to understand the perception of time.

It must be awful having to endure up to four months of the little ones wanting Christmas Day to arrive.

So, being the first to complain, I would also like to be the first to say, my thanks go to Natasha for opening my eyes to a new way of thinking.
