Poppy Appeal awards take place in Billingshurst

Every year within Sussex County, Cadet Forces are recruited voluntary to help with the Royal British Legion Poppy Campaign and in recognition of their support with fund raising there is in place the Lord Lt of the County of Sussex Award Scheme for outstanding Cadets.

This year such awards took place in Billingshurst hosted by the Royal British Legion Billingshurst Branch and St Gabriel’s Church on the 9th February 2015 in the presence of County Officers and Royal British Legion Executive Branch Members; Families and Friends.

Some 50 plus cadets were presented with awards by Mrs. Sue Pyper, the Lord Lt of Sussex and Group Captain Derek North -Royal British Legion County President.

Group Captain North spoke about the loyalty of the Cadet Forces towards fund raising for the Poppy Appeal and the ‘bravery’ in these troubled times of wearing a uniform in public.

Mrs.Sue Pyper,the Lord Lt of Sussex added her thanks and encouragement to such a worthy commitment for the on going work of the Royal British Legion.

During the 2014 Poppy Appeal a total of £1,264,628.49 has been raised so far in Sussex with many more events taking place throughout the year.

The National Total stands currently stands at £40,639,709.19
