‘Sleight of hand’

Terry Ellis (Gazette letters March 6) is quite right to draw attention to the latest sleight of hand from Arun District Council and the way in which its leader seeks to attach the blame to others – as if butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth!

Her council withdrew a key section of the Littlehampton neighbourhood plan at the 11th hour, apparently without consulting the stakeholders, and now she blames the town council for delays in it going to referendum.

As usual, Cllr Mrs Brown accepts no responsibility herself. In Cllr Mrs Brown’s world it’s always somebody else’s fault and she can never quite understand why stakeholders don’t gushingly support her council’s ‘tweaks’ like her never-questioning party political loyalists do.

Only one thing is certain and that is that Arun’s Conservative group will do what they do best – they will look the other way rather than question their cabinet’s conduct in this matter.

And we all remember the manner in which the Windmill was closed, also without any objections from Arun’s Conservative group.

We must also thank Peter Herbert for his diligence on behalf of the people of Littlehampton – a proper public servant.
