This is M&S Littlehampton

WE would like to add our voices to the growing number of people dismayed at the decision to replace yet more homes in Littlehampton with a monstrous new development.

The announcement that the go-ahead had been granted for 56 flats to be constructed on the site of five existing houses (Gazette, March 20), was met with dismay by all members of my family.

It's not that we begrudge housing for the "frail and elderly" '” we just wonder how many of the new residents will be from the local area.

It's not that we want to keep Littlehampton in a time capsule, as modern designs in architecture can really enhance residential areas.

Unfortunately, this particular development looks like all the other McCarthy & Stone buildings in the area and therefore its completion will only enhance the company bank balance.

As our daughter sagely observed: "This isn't just Littlehampton, this is M & S Littlehampton" (McCarthy and Stone that is)!
