Parents' concern over child care centre

WORRIED parents began a petition immediately they learned that planners had deferred Sure Start's child care centre application in Egerton Park.

Plans of the proposed development - together with the Sure Start scheme to replace the old school gymnasium building which has housed the Rainbow Playgroup behind Sidley House were on display at the family support group's fun day at Bexhill Leisure Centre.

The Sidley scheme has gained Rother approval.

Father-of-two John Falla said at the fun day: "We have a parents' petition for this plan being circulated.

"We are asking parents to put their names to the petition to support the child care centre. It is urgently needed. Someone seems to have the wrong impression about what the centre is for. It will not have hordes of teenagers. It is for pre-school children.

"This is something the community really wants. When Sure Start first started we got everyone together and asked them what they wanted - 'A child care centre!' that was the response; somewhere in the town centre area. There is nothing there at present.
