Crawley parents are being invited to attend a special information event on the building of a new school in the town.
Forge Wood Primary will serve the new neighbourhood of Forge Wood to the north of Pound Hill, and parents are invited to drop in and find out about plans for the school.
Parents of children due to start reception next September are especially welcome as they can now apply for one of the 60 places at the school.
The Forge Wood Primary will then grow by 60 places each year to become a reception to year 6 school serving 4 to 11 year olds.
The information event will be held at Crawley Library from 4pm-6.45pm on Tuesday November 17, and is being held by GLF Schools, a multi-academy trust who will run the school.
Staff from GLF Schools, based in Ewell, Surrey, will be on hand to meet parents and other members of the local community interested in finding out more.
Jeremy Hunt, West Sussex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “The building of a new school is always a very important and exciting event, not only for the council, but also for parents and children in the community. It will be a fantastic development which will give children in the area the best possible start in life.”
Mr Hunt added: “We really encourage parents and members of the community to go along and find out more about Forge Wood Primary and get answers to any of their questions.
“The session will be a ‘drop in’ format with an opportunity to view building plans and speak to staff from GLF Schools. GLF schools, have an excellent reputation and WSCC welcome them as new academy sponsors to the county.”
Jon Chaloner, GLF Schools CEO, said: “GLF Schools are delighted to be opening a new primary school in Crawley. We have opened four primary schools over the last three years and understand the importance of knowing the local community.
“We have been working closely with West Sussex County Council and the housing developers on plans for the school, and look forward to meeting prospective parents on November 17.”
The new school building is being built by the housebuilders Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey and will be completed in 2017, and open for school use in the September.
The school plans to open in specifically designed temporary accommodation close to the new school site from September 2016 for one academic year until transferring to its new home.
