Last week, a council became the first in the world to charge Parkrun a fee to hold the event.

The decision to charge the users of Little Stoke Park, near Bristol, has sparked a backlash - with more than 50,000 people signing an online petition opposing the decision.

And this week, a spokesperson for Crawley Borough Council said the council ‘will not be implementing a charge for Tilgate Parkrun’.

The weekly jog in Tilgate Park has seen thousands of runners take part since it began in June 2012.

Parkrun is an international phenomenon that sees participants run a 5km course every week.

The run in Tilgate Park begins every Saturday at 9am.
