Pease Pottage golf club to support wounded marines charity

Ruth Leatherbarrow, has chosen Help Our Wounded Royal Marines charity as her son, Tom, is a serving Royal Marine.

Her appeal was launched at the charity coffee morning on February 9, where the guest speaker was the charity’s Chairman of Trustees, David Lilburn MBE.

The charity began three years ago and has already raised over £210,000.

In the past, the charity has run a variety of events around the country and abroad, including a sleigh-pull from London to Brighton and a 50/50 Yomp, in which they marched with 50 pounds of military gear for 50 miles from Brighton to Portsmouth.

Ruth’s appeal got off to a great start by raising nearly £280 with a cake and home produce sale at the coffee morning. She has also committed herself to take part in a 25km Thames Bridge Trek. Another member, Margaret Brice, has pledged to run three 10km races in one week.

David Lilburn MBE said: “Help our Wounded were delighted to hear that Cottesmore golf club had chosen us as their charity this year. Being local to Crawley and also being the chairman of the charity I was also delighted to be invited to the club to give a talk on our charity.”
