Pedal power pulls in the cash

A BIKE ride for orphans in Uganda raised more money than was expected. The Quicken Trust held it's seventh annual ride in July, so five children in Kabubbu can start their secondary education.

The original target was 12,500 but the Hailsham-based Trust has already counted 14,000 and the final amount is yet to be announced.

Geoff Booker, from the Trust, thanked all those who took part and supported the event.

He said: 'When you think of the terrible rain and wind that hit us over the bike ride weekend we thought we would be struggling to achieve our target.

'But thanks to the 200 people who pedalled away, their sponsors and local businesses supporting the event, we will now be able to give tremendous hope to these five orphans in Kabubbu needing education.
