People rally to help families evacuated from Crawley homes after major gas leak

People in Crawley are rallying round to help hundreds of families who were evacuated from their homes last night following a major gas leak.

A total of 700 people were put into emergency accommodation after the gas leak at flats in Milton Mount Avenue, Pound Hill, soon after midnight last night.

Now local people have rallied to help and are providing essential supplies, including baby essentials, for the families who are currently being housed at a number of local hotels.

Meanwhile, South East Coast Ambulance Service, including a Hazardous Response Team, left the scene of the leak at around 6.30 am this morning.

A spokesman swaid the ambulance crews “worked closely with our emergency service colleagues to keep the residents safe.

“No injuries were reported.”
