Members of the public service union UNISON are calling for ‘a decent pay rise’ for all NHS workers.

UNISON area organiser Mick Moriarty described the Government’s current offer of a one per cent increase as ‘a slap in the face’ and said all NHS staff deserved a pay rise of at least £2,000,

He said health staff were ‘frustrated and angry’ at the offer after their hard work over the past year during the coronavirus pandemic.

“NHS staff are exhausted and burnt out after the most difficult year imaginable. Effectively getting a pay cut after everything they’ve been through is a real slap in the face.”

He said the pay rise was due on April 1 and “every day that passes without a pay award is another day NHS staff are being told they aren’t valued by our politicians.

“One per cent is effectively a pay cut, that’s why UNISON is calling for at least a £2,000 pay rise for all NHS workers.

“It’s a fair and affordable increase, and one that’s supported by the public.”

UNISON is urging everyone who cares about a fair rise for health workers to contact their MP and ask them to support their NHS pay campaign https://action.unison.org.uk/page/78889/-/1
