West Sussex County Council has launched a text service for people hoping to foster or adopt a child.

Potential foster carers or adoptive parents can now ask for a call back from the council’s fostering recruitment team by text.

Cllr Peter Evans, cabinet member for Children – Start of Life, said: “A simple text now allows people to register their interest - then a member of our team will call them back to discuss their skills and suitability as well as answer any questions they may have.

“Anyone can apply to foster or adopt, regardless of cultural background, ethnicity, sexuality or marital status, but we know these are not easy decisions to make.

“That’s why we want to make it as easy as possible for people to take those first steps to finding out more about fostering and adoption.”

A council spokesman said texts would be charged at a standard network rate and call backs made within two working days.

To use the service, text ‘FOSTER’ or ‘ADOPT’ to 82228.
