Crawley council employs new £70k manager


A new head of Economic and Environmental Services at Crawley Borough Council will be receive a £70,000 a year salary.

Clem Smith joins the council on May 5 from the London Borough of Waltham Forest and has more than 20 years of experience in economic development. His appointment completes the new senior management team.

A councils spokesman said he would play a ‘big role’ in shaping and delivering the council’s economic development and town centre regeneration and plans. He will also oversee the Asset Management, Development Control and Environmental Health services.

A vigorous selection process, which included panel interviews and presentations, was carried out, said the spokesman.

Crawley Borough Council chief executive Lee Harris said: “Economic development and particularly town centre regeneration are some of the biggest challenges facing the town and this new position will enable us to provide a greater focus implementing our plans.

“Clem impressed the selection panels with his excellent knowledge, track record of achievement and I’m confident that he will be a great addition to Crawley”.
