A Crawley father is embarking on a marathon and 48 mile challenge to raise money for a charity supporting patients with Parkinson’s disease .

Jimmy Beale, 34, is preparing to run the New York Marathon in November and then the Walt Disney World ‘Dopey Challenge’ in January.

Together he will be running more than 70 miles for charity.

He was moved to support the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research after his father, Mike, was diagnosed with the condition ten years ago.

He said: “Dad’s 67. It affects the muscles and nervous system. You almost lose control of them.

“He used to play football at Three Bridges and he had to give that up. He loved it as well.

“I’ve never done a marathon before. It’s going to be really tough for me.

“One of the reasons I chose the New York Marathon was for the crowd participation. It’s meant to be great.”

The Disney’s Dopey Challenge is part of weekend of events run at the Disney World Resorts.

Jimmy will be doing a 5km run on the Friday, a half marathon on Saturday finishing with a marathon on the Sunday. His children, three-year- old Isla and Fraser, now five months, will also take part in a 100metre race at Disney World.
