Crawley gamers can now officially get their hands on Pokémon Go after it was released in the UK.

The smartphone game, which allows people to catch a variety of creatures in real-life settings, was made available to download on Google Play and iTunes earlier today (July 14).

Pokémon Go has already proved incredibly popular, with millions of downloads worldwide. And despite it not officially being available in the UK until today, many people have used a work-around to download it.

People hoping to join the craze are already getting messages to try later when they attempt to download the game, such is its amazing popularity.

While players across Sussex are starting to create Pokemon Go Facebook pages and communities, the emphasis on social media is firmly with Twitter where #Pokemon has been trending.

There are various accounts on Twitter across West Sussex for fans of the game, while players are ‘claiming’ various landmarks across the county, including parts of Crawley.

However, not everyone is keen on the game.

The children’s charity, the NSPCC, has criticised the app’s owners for “ignoring many warning signals and well documented child safety concerns.”
