Crawley man banned and fined for drink-driving

A Crawley man has been fined and banned from the roads after being caught drink-driving on Christmas Eve.

Benjamin Freer, of Marion Road, Maidenbower, was arrested at 2.30am on December 24 after police received information he was driving illegally.

When officers went to his home, Freer, 21, admitted he had been driving and tests proved he was more than twice the drink-driving limit.

He pleaded guilty at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on January 14 to drink-driving and driving without insurance.

Freer was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £380 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

A total of 33 people have so far been convicted of offences as part of the Sussex Police’s 2014 Christmas crackdown on drink and drug-driving.
