A fire in Crawley town centre was arson.

Firefighters put out a fire in a three-storey building after an industrial bin behind it was set alight.

Three crews were called to the commercial building in The Broadway at 7.29pm on Friday (April 10).

Police closed the road while firefighters put out the blaze.

The crews, two from Crawley and one from Horsham, used four sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a triple extension ladder, said West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters checked the building for hot spots with a thermal imaging camera.

They left the incident with Sussex Police at 8.25pm.
