Delays at Gatwick after air traffic control glitch

Passengers at Gatwick face delays after a computer failure at the UK’s air traffic control centre.

Flights due to depart Gatwick were grounded for a while after Nats confirmed a “technical problem” at its Swanwick control centre in Hampshire.

A Gatwick spokesman said: “There is a technical problem at the NATS control centre which is affecting UK airspace. Departing flights are currently experiencing delays and we will update passengers as soon as we have more information.”

Passengers took to social media to share their feelings about the delays.

Sharif Hossain wrote on Twitter: “It all unfolds as you board. Still on tarmac. Just annoying now as hungry kids and seems we’re split for next leg as well!” while Jason Spacey joked: “@Gatwick_Airport Have you tried turning it off and then on again?”

But some did not find the situation funny.

Michael Collins wrote: “Sat doing a sudoku on Gatwick Airport for 8 hours. Disgraceful.”
