Thirteen-year-old poodle cross Barney is hoping for a second chance after his owner sadly passed away.

Barney is very people oriented and struggles with being left alone, which means he has become a permanent resident in the Home from Home office at the centre, in Brighton Road, Shoreham.

Bellah Armstrong, Home from Home co-ordinator at Dogs Trust Shoreham, said: “Barney has suddenly had his world turned upside down and he does not enjoy alone time, which has meant he has taken on the role of ‘office dog’ at the centre. He is now looking to take advantage of all the luxuries his retirement years have to offer, and he would appreciate a quiet and peaceful lifestyle, where he can settle into his new environment at his own pace. He enjoys a predictable, yet enriching walking route and would be happy for another calm and friendly dog to join him on adventures.

“This year, some of our centre staff roles are being supported by funding raised by generous players of People’s Postcode Lottery. We want to say thank you to the players, as their support has meant we have been able to continue providing the loving care dogs like Barney need whilst they are with us.”

Barney will need a multiple-person household, to ensure there is always someone around to keep him company. He would be best suited to a home with older teenagers, who can respect he is an older dog who enjoys peace and quiet. He does enjoy taking a gentle plod around the park with a canine companion but would prefer to be the only pet in the home, so he can be the focus.
