Eastbourne Wyntercon will still go ahead, say organisers

Wyntercon VII is due to happen on the weekend of September 26-27, and will be a celebration of the imagination.

A spokesperson for the event said in a statement, “So far everything looks positive for Wyntercon VII, even more so with the announcement today relaxing the social distance requirements to a minimum of one metre, although we will take a cautious approach on this at the event.

“The health and safety of our staff, volunteers, visitors, guests and exhibitors remains of paramount importance. We continue to monitor developments, including new guidance set out by government departments and relevant health authorities.

“Let’s make sure that Wyntercon VII is safe, enjoyable, and productive.

“Thank you for your understanding as we tackle this unexpected obstacle together, Stay positive and stay safe.”

It comes after news this week that this year’s Eastbourne Bonfire Celebrations have been cancelled as well as the Steampunk festival.

Two major Eastbourne events cancelled due to coronavirus

The town’s biggest event, Airbourne, has also been cancelled due to the pandemic.

Wyntercon is a charity which says it holds one of the biggest family events in the south in Eastbourne each year.

It supports and encourages people from underprivileged backgrounds to thrive within the creative sector, particularly in the worlds of sci-fi and fantasy.
