Gatwick Airport Detention Centre has said it has ‘well-developed’ procedures to manage infectious disease outbreaks after a detainee tested positive for coronavirus.

John Whitwam, managing director of G4S Custodial and Detention Services, said the health and safety of staff and people in the centre’s care is the ‘top priority’.

He added: “We have existing, well-developed policies and procedures in place to manage outbreaks of infectious diseases.

“We are in regular discussion with Public Health England and following all national guidance.”
