Police are investigating after a woman suffered a broken leg when she was involved in a collision with a remote controlled vehicle in a horror incident in Burgess Hill on Monday.

The woman was taking part in an exercise session at St John’s Park, Burgess Hill, with the fitness group Ultimate Outdoor Training when she was struck by the vehicle.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to St John’s Park on London Road at 8.05pm to a report a woman had been hit several times by a remote control vehicle.

“She was treated for a broken leg. Officers are still waiting to speak to her to find out more details.

“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact police on 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1385 of 23/08.”

Paul Gilson, who co-owns Ultimate Outdoor Training with Dave Shaldoum, said that he understood the woman was due to get married in 18 days.

He said she had been with a group who had been training by the old lido in the park when she was hit by the vehicle which appeared to be petrol-powered.

She was given first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Mid Sussex District Council, which owns the park, said it had been notified of the incident. “We are waiting for Ultimate Outdoor Training to send us a full accident report and we will then carry out a full investigation.”
