Now she says she is at her wits’ end after the neighbour posted human waste in a tissue through her letterbox.

“He’s abusive and verbally aggressive,” said the woman who lives in a flat with her elderly mother. “He’s like a shark and we’re like the prey.

“We’re terrified of him.”

She says the neighbour first became aggressive towards her four years ago after she complained about noise from a children’s party which went on into the night.

Since then, she said, there had been many other instances of anti social behaviour.

The woman, who does not want to be named, is a full-time carer for her mother who has a number of health issues.

She says she has complained to Sussex Police and Saxon Weald housing association on many occasions over the past four years, but she feels that nothing is being done.

“I feel insecure. I don’t feel safe in my own home and, if I go out, I don’t like leaving my mother here.

“I can’t live another year like this. Something has to be done. I can’t sleep, I’m at my wits’ end.”

She said she has kept noise logs and has video evidence of the man’s behaviour.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police confirmed they had received a recent report from the woman about anti social behaviour.

“She reported that faeces had been posted through her letterbox and this related to ongoing anti-social behaviour she was experiencing from a neighbour.”

She said the incident had been referred to a local prevention team who would be visiting the woman and referring her to local support agencies.

A spokesman for Saxon Weald said it was a ‘complex situation’ where both the woman and her neighbour were ‘accusing each other of unacceptable behaviour.’

“We are trying to work with both parties to reach a resolution, but have not yet been able to get them to agree to mediation.

“Police are investigating the allegations around the faeces through the letterbox and we must wait for the results before we decide on any appropriate legal action in respect of the tenancy.”
