More than 250 take part in St Catherine’s midnight walk

More than 250 people took part in a midnight walk in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice on Saturday.

Because of the covid restrictions this year, people gathered in their own small groups to walk their own, two, seven, 13 or 20 mile walks - and helped to raise around £40,000.

St Catherine’s staff set people off walking in style, with a special Facebook Live pre-walk celebration including entertainment and a virtual warm up.

Among those who took part were Michelle Covey, her sister Rosie, and sister-in-law Kelly who completed a 13 mile walk.

Michelle said: “During lockdown out grandad Jim was diagnosed with cancer and it was terminal.

“He spent his last few days with the wonderful ladies in the Crawley hospice. A few family members where allowed to visit and say their final goodbyes and on the night of the 10th May he passed away with a lovely nurse by his side.

“We are sooo truly grateful to these wonderful people as he wasn’t alone.”
