Peacehaven man dies in A281 crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a crash on the A281.

The collision happened in Poynings earlier today, June 5, according to police.

A spokeswoman said: “Officers were called to West Road at 8.50am on Friday (June 5) where a truck and cyclist had collided.

“Sadly, the cyclist, a man aged 55 from Peacehaven, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. Next of kin have been informed.”

The truck driver - a 29-year-old man from Brighton - was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been taken to custody for questioning, she added.

Road closures are currently in place and police are appealing to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened.

Police said people can report information online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Elmstone.
