Ian Newitt spotted the birds in Doomsday Lane field. The 55-year-old gardener said: “We were on our way to Mannings Heath to do a hedging job.

“My wife normally looks out for deer. She said there’s a couple of peacocks [in the field].”

Ian leapt out of his van to take a few snaps of the birds.

He added: “It was most bizarre. It’s not a usual thing to see strolling round Horsham.

Ian said the birds were about three or four foot tall and were both male.

He added: “It was nice to see. I don’t know whether they were doing their Covid-19 exercise routine.

“I have seen some strange sights out and about in gardens but nothing like this.”
