She added: “The housebuilder is now finalising detailed plans for the 13.5-acre site comprising a range of two, three and four-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments, including 74 affordable homes for shared ownership or rent.

“Existing trees and hedgerows along the site’s borders will be retained alongside new planting, while the apartments at the development will benefit from a community garden to include raised beds for growing fruit and vegetables.”

The development will also include informal green open space and an on-site children’s play area.

Dan Bradbury, regional director of Bellway South London, added: “Our acquisition of this parcel of land in Crawley will enable us to deliver much-needed new housing for the local area, including 74 affordable homes for local people.

“In addition to this, 11 of the private homes for sale will be available at a discounted rate to buyers who meet specific affordability criteria.

“We will be building a wide range of homes to suit people at various stages of the property ladder, with a particular focus on providing a great choice of three-bedroom family houses, which make up over a third of the private housing mix at the development.”

Construction began on the wider Forge Wood community in 2014 and work on what is Crawley’s 14th neighbourhood is anticipated for completion in 2026, the firm said.
