Residents evacuated from road in East Grinstead following gas leak

Residents of a road in East Grinstead were evacuated from their homes yesterday evening due to a gas leak.

Police officers assisted with the evacuation in Cantelupe Road.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to reports of a gas leak at a property on Cantelupe Road in East Grinstead at 6.49pm.

“One crew from Crawley and one from Turners Hill were mobilised to the scene.

“Officers from Sussex Police were also in attendance.

“Upon arrival, the crew ventilated the property, and the incident was handed over to the utilities provider.

“The crews left the scene at 7.55pm.”

Police in Mid Sussex confirmed on Twitter that everyone was ‘safe and well’ and that, by 10pm, everyone had returned to their homes.
