It started as Lola is in self-isolation after a positive Covid case at her school

Laura Day, Lola’s mum, said: “She is really active and social so it was thinking of something she could do to keep her busy.”

She is raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

“The Royal Marsden has been amazing to us, our friend Vicky Whitmore, who was in the band The Slabs with my husband Kevin, died of cancer in May and the Royal Marsden kept her comfortable, so it important to us.” Laura said.

Lola’s dad Kevin was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in January.

After struggling with a pain in his arm, a blood test revealed a DVT. A scan followed and showed shadows on his lungs, and that the cancer had spread to his lymph nodes.

Laura said: “About six weeks ago we found out the cancer had spread, so he is undergoing chemo to keep it at bay but now he just wants to make it to Christmas for Lola and Jack.”

Lola’s challenge is to do ten miles over 14 days, her mile consists of laps of her garden which takes about 25 minutes. Her target was initially £150 but she has raised over £2,000.

“She is loving it but we have a number of ways to keep her motivated with music or she talks to people on the phone,” explained Laura, who lives in Horley

“My friend has said that they will drop their dog off one day so Lola can walk their dog around the garden.

“She is only four so I explain that what she is doing is helping people and helping daddy’s hospital.”
