Southwater pays respects on Remembrance Sunday

Southwater fell silent at 11am on Sunday as people paid their respects on Remembrance Sunday.

Fifty-three men did not return from the two world wars, including in India, Africa and Europe.

This year’s service was done under government guidelines with social distancing in place, with around 50 people attending to remember those that died in war and those people who have died of Covid-19 this year.

Members of the Royal Sussex Regiment Association attended the service at Southwater war memorial including Bob Piper, 95, who joined the army 80 years ago on the November 6 1940. He was awarded the legion d’honneur which is the highest honour the French government can award to someone.
