The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run will feature a fancy dress competition for the first time.

More than 400 vintage pre-1905 cars taking part in the world’s oldest motoring event will travel through Crawley on November 1.

The annual event’s Best Period Dress Award will be open to a public vote.

BBC presenters Chris Evans and Alex Jones will take part in two vintage buses in aid of BBC Children in Need.

The run’s organisers were criticised for missing out its traditional High Street stop in 2014.

To vote for the best wacky dress the public can use the hashtags: #VCRdress2impress with #VCR<car number>.

People will be able to see the cars, and the period dress from 8.15am in the High Street with most cars expected through at 10.30am.
