Video: Crawley teen films lightning before neighbour’s home struck

A teenager took this video from his home in Rother Crescent, Gossops Green, on Tuesday afternoon (May 19).

Jack Johnson-Hiett, 13, who goes to Oriel High School, filmed the storm shortly before a house on his street was struck by lightning.

The bolt damaged the home’s roof rafters, ground floor wall and curtains at around 6.30pm.

A Crawley fire crew used a hose reel to dampen down an area of the roof, removed insulation and checked the house for hot spots, said a spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
