Youngsters campaign in Partridge Green for youth team’s future

More than 750 signatures were gathered for a petition presented to Martin Warner at St Michael’s Church in Partridge Green, with the hope of maintaining the YES Team’s resources.

Concerned supporters of the youth group fear Dr Warner will discontinue the small team of workers that support children and young people across the county.

Speaking after a short presentation from young people involved with the group, Dr Warner stressed all commitments made to the group will be upheld, but added the church is ‘restructuring’ some of its funds.

Claire Phillips, joint leader of the YES Team, said: “We understand the bishop is restructuring, but the team we have is very talented and it would be a tragedy if we are not able to keep these particular individuals.

“It sounded like some things will continue but other things that are important to the youngsters won’t be continuing.

“I think it is very important to the young people to feel they have been listened to and stood up for what they believe in.”

A number of the group’s young members explained what the group meant to them and why it is important.

Hannah Burtenshaw, 16, has been involved with the YES Team since she was 11.

She said: “They have been there for me and helped me through things. It is a way to meet friends, I have met a lot of new people and it has helped drive a good community spirit.”
