Pett and Pett Level

With only two councillors the Council was inquorate and unable to make any decisions. In such circumstances, both local County and District Councillors join the Council on a temporary basis so that it can function until the departing councillors are replaced. Therefore at the Parish Council meeting held on Tuesday October 18 East Sussex County Councillor Carl Maynard and Rother District Councillors Roger Bird and Chris Saint joined the Council. Ex Rother District Councillor Robin Patten was co-opted onto the Council and also elected Vice-Chairman. It is understood that another person will also be joining the Council next month, which will leave three vacancies.

At that Council meeting the items in Public Time included the following:

§ East Sussex County Council - Cllr Maynard:

Ø ESCC had accepted a four-year financial settlement from the government.

Ø Boundary Commission changes to East Sussex Council areas will mean that Pett moves to Eastern Rother from Brede Valley.

Ø In response to complaints about the recent closure of Chick Hill by BT, Cllr Maynard agreed to take up a number of issues with the organisation.

§ Rother District Council - Cllr Saint:

Ø Friars Hill would be closed from October 24 for three weeks whilst essential drainage works were carried out. Concern was expressed about the diversion for buses via Chapel Lane.

Ø Discussions about the future of the public toilets at Pett Level had been suspended until the County and District Councillors had stood down from the Parish Council

§ Non-payment of invoice relating to work at the Recreation Ground.

§ The lack of Council Minutes as pettnet was unavailable. The minutes are available on the Council’s Facebook page.

§ The resignations of six Parish Councillors.

§ Heavy vehicles using a bridge at Pett Level.

Church services: On Sunday October 30 – Benefice Holy Communion, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 10:30am. There will be a Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

Pett Older People’s Project: At POPP on Tuesday November 1 Just George Entertains. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:00pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

Village Coffee Morning: Do come along to the Village Coffee Morning on Wednesday November 2. Starting at 10am Sally and her team will be ready to welcome you with the very best coffee, tea, biscuits and yummy, yummy cakes.

Craft Fair: All crafters are welcome to the Craft Fair that is being held in Pett Village Hall on Saturday November 19 from 10am to 3pm. Tables are just £12 so please book early and contact Jeannette 01424 814717.

Missing Pets: Over recent weeks three cats and a dog have gone missing in the Pett/ Guestling area. The police have been informed but I thought it would be useful to share this information. One pet in particular, a cat, has now been missing for 7 weeks from Friars Hill. She is a small 8 year-old brown spotted female Bengal who was particularly road savvy. She has been micro chipped but there is no indication that her chip has been read. If anyone has seen her or has any relevant information, please contact Ken Pitts on 01424 813162.
