Play centre evacuated

Staff at Monkey Business on the Cliff Industrial Estate spotted what they thought was smoke and immediately evacuated the building.

They called the fire service yesterday at around 4.45pm and a crew from Lewes Fire Station arrived at the scene within three minutes.

Following a quick investigation firefighters found the suspected smoke was actually dust from an extraction fan.

Alex Cheney, the director of Monkey Business, said: 'It was only a false alarm but it was better to be safe than sorry.

'There were around 90 people in the building at the time and everyone remained calm during the evacuation.'
