Suzanne Hutchins, a resident of High Oaks, said a police helicopter was seen circling the area and residents were not allowed to enter or leave the estate.

She said: “There was a helicopter circling around Goffs Park from about 6.30pm until just gone 7pm.

“It was all cordoned off between St Wilfrid’s School and Rose Walk.

“They blocked the road off so any one coming in either had to go in the pub or go back. My neighbour said she was stuck in the pub until it re-opened.”

The road and school re-opened at 7pm. No one was hurt.

The man has been questioned and released on bail until November 7.
