Police hunt modern-day Bexhill '˜highwaymen'

POLICE hunting two modern-day '˜highwaymen' who stole a large quantity of cash - believed to have been thousands of pounds - from a driver they flagged down in Bexhill have issued an e-fit of one of the suspects.

DC Mark Waughman, from Rother CID, said: “The robbery took place at 2.20pm on Wednesday, October 27, at the junction of Holliers Road and Barrack Road.

“The victim was driving a black Peugeot 307 south towards the town centre, intending to go to the bank, when a man stepped out into the road and flagged him down.

“As he stopped, he was threatened by the man in our e-fit, who was joined by a second man who opened the passenger door and stole a blue plastic bag containing the cash. Both ran off, one into Barrack Road and the other towards Chantry Lane.”

The robbers’ victim was said to have been “unharmed but pretty shaken” by the daylight hold-up.

The first man, featured here, is described as white, in his early 30s, 6ft 1in tall, wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. It was he who ran off into Barrack Road.

The second man was also white, 5ft 10ins tall, and dressed in a dark top and blue joggers. He was holding the bright blue carrier bag, and ran up Chantry Lane towards the Old Town.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who saw one or two men standing on the roadside in Barrack Road beforehand, or who saw either man running off, is asked to call 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 921 of 27/10.

Alternatively, anyone recognising the descriptions or e-fit, or who has any information about the offenders, can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously and free on 0800 555 111.
