Police make kidnap arrests in drug crime crackdown

Arrests for kidnap were made as part of a two-week drug crime crackdown in Crawley.

Police arrested 19 people and seized £110,000 of drugs and cash during Operation Enforcer from March 14 to 28.

Four people were arrested after a 37-year-old Crawley man who claimed he was being held against his will called police on March 24.

A police spokesman said two Crawley women, aged 33 and 58, were arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment. A man, 35, from Crawley, and 28-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of kidnap two days later.

A 17-year-old girl was arrested in connection with a medical incident which saw a 37-year-old woman from Horsham taken to hospital in a critical condition from Crawley on March 22.

The girl and a 55-year-old Crawley man were arrested on suspciion of conspiring to supply a class A controlled drug.

A police statement said: “Police actioned a warrant at an address in Tilgate at around 11am on Wednesday, 16 March. A 24-year-old man from Crawley was arrested on suspicion of concealing criminal property. He has been bailed until 18 May.

“On Wednesday, 16 March a 29-year-old man from Crawley was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis and driving under the influence. He has been bailed until 1 June.

“During a routine patrol officers noticed suspicious activity in Ifield Road, Crawley on Thursday, 17 March.A 32-year-old man from Crawley was arrested on suspicion of possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply and was cautioned.

“At around 9am on Friday (18 March) police actioned a warrant at an address in Tilgate, Crawley. A 58-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and concealing criminal property. He was released on bail until 5 July. A 54-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and concealing criminal property. She was released on bail until 5 July. A 22-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and money laundering offences. He was released on bail until 5 July. A 27-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and money laundering offences. He was released on bail until 5 July.

“At around 8am on Sunday, 20 March police were called to an address in Ifield, Crawley to report drug-related activity. A 47-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and released on bail until 8 June. A 56-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and released on bail until 8 June.

“At around 5.20pm on Monday, 21 March, a vehicle failed to stop in Hyde Drive, Crawley. A 20-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and bailed until 23 May.

“Emergency services were called to a medical incident in Crawley at around 2.15am on Tuesday, 22 March. A 37-year-old woman from Horsham was taken to hospital in a critical condition. A 17-year-old girl from Crawley was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to supply a class A controlled drug and released on bail until 12 June. A 55-year-old man from Crawley was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to supply a class A controlled drug and released on bail until 12 June.

“Police were called at around 7.50am on Thursday, 24 March by a 37-year-old local man who claimed he had been held against his will. A 35-year-old man from Crawley was arrested on 26 March on suspicion of kidnap and bailed until 3 June. A 28-year-old woman from Redhill was arrested on 26 March on suspicion of kidnap and bailed until 3 June. A 33-year-old woman from Crawley was arrested on 24 March on suspicion of false imprisonment and bailed until 2 June. A 58-year-old woman from Crawley was arrested on 24 March on suspicion of false imprisonment and bailed until 2 June.

“A 24-year-old man of no fixed address was seen in Three Bridges Road, Crawley at around 1.45pm on Thursday, 24 March. He was wanted on warrant and currently remains in custody.”
