There have been seven offences in the past week. In each of these incidents the intruders have got into houses through insecure doors when the occupants are at home. No victims have been confronted.

Investigator Rebecca Doherty said, “The crime is complete in a matter of seconds as the personal items are stolen from areas very close to where the burglars have entered.

“We are advising residents to ensure all their doors are locked even when they are at home and to not store their handbags, wallets and cash near their external doors.”

In the early hours of Sunday (March 20) there was an attempted burglary in Aubin Close, Broadfield where an intruder was disturbed in the house at around 1.15am and made off.

Shortly afterwards a burglary was discovered in Helier Close, Broadfield where two bags were stolen; one of which was recovered nearby.

A white man aged in his 20s was seen in the area around midnight on a black mountain bike and then seen jumping a fence into a nearby garden.
