This follows a notice of motion from Morwen Millson (LDem, Horsham Riverside) calling on the authority to do more to make publicity and information available to residents, to investigate its own purchasing policies regarding Fairtrade items and products, and to support Fairtrade practices among local businesses and other organisations.

Bob Lanzer (Con, Maidenbower), WSCC’s cabinet member for corporate relations, has supported the motion and committed to a number of actions, including promoting Fairtrade on the county council’s website, supporting Fairtrade Fortnight, providing education packs in schools and libraries, and ensuring Fairtrade and/or Rainforest Alliance products are available in the county council’s committee rooms.
