The number of people using footpaths and pavements has increased and it is more important than ever to be careful of others outdoors.

Cyclists are asked to stay on designated cycle-paths where possible where possible, avoid footpaths and slow down and give way to walkers, wheelchair users and horse-riders.

Walkers and runners should keep to footpaths and be respectful of others around them.

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said: “We are proud to live in an area which attracts visitors but at the moment this is a cause for anxiety for many of our residents.

“At the moment we are discouraging extra visitors to and around the county until restrictions are lifted more fully.”

If you are planning on going to the countryside, parks or beaches please remember to:

• Keep your dog under control and clear up after them.

• Be aware that some paths pass through working farmland.

• Take your litter home with you.
