Popular prince visits Wiley office

A ROYAL entertained the crowds when he visited a centre in Bognor celebrating its 30th anniversary.

His Royal Highness Prince Andrew stepped out of his car and joked with onlookers before meeting Jim Dicks and Charly Nobbs of John Wiley & Sons outside the company's European Distribution Centre (EDC).

Prince Andrew got everybody laughing when he asked what everyone was standing around for.

"Do you all work for this company?," he said. "Shouldn't you all be doing something important? It's nice to see you all."

After he greeted the crowds, an excited employee of Wiley & Sons Ltd, Jun Cordero, said: "My wife and I have only been living in the UK for five years and we have never seen a royal up close. I think the monarchy in this country is great."

The Lord Lieutenant of West Sussex Hugh Wyatt, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for the county Roger Turner and Bognor and Littlehampton MP Nick Gibb were also there to meet Prince Andrew and get the grand tour of the centre.

The Duke of York got the chance to see how the EDC operates and how all of the books which it distributes are packed.

The centre distributes textbooks and bestsellers throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Prince Andrew witnessed the streamlined operations which has stored 7.5 million units and packed and distributed to 139 countries in the past year. After the acquisition of Blackwell Publishing Ltd last year, the EDC has grown significantly.

Vice president and distribution director at John Wiley & Sons Ltd, Charly Nobbs, said: "We thought the anniversary should warrant a royal visit. All the staff here were very excited and we spent a lot of time preparing for this. It's been an incredibly busy year. The company has employed more people and we look forward to a very promising future."
