£150,000 FOR RAIL LINK STUDY

FURTHER work is to be commissioned into proposals to re-open the Lewes to Uckfield railway line.

A 150,000 full feasibility study will go ahead, subject to sufficient funding being found.

County Councillor Rupert Simmons said: 'The potential for a re-opened line has been confirmed.

'We recognise it is desirable, both for the economy and sustainability of the area.

'However, there are many factors to be analysed and resolved before this can become a reality and expectation needs to be held in check.'

For that purpose, the county and the two district authorities and a number of town councils are all prepared to contribute to the cost of the next, more detailed, piece of work.

Other potential funding partners are being approached.
