Pupils enjoy a Midsummer Night’s Dream

All the children at Staplecross Primary School have had lots of fun putting on the Shakespeare for Kidz version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Every child in the school has their part, either as a Woodland Sprite, a confused young lover from Athens or an enthusiastic amateur actor as one of the mechanicals.

The oldest children have used the play as their Literacy text for the term and have been learning about how the play would have been staged in the C16 and about William Shakespeare himself. The rest of the school have loved watching the story coming to life, laughing out loud during rehearsals at the antics of the Mechanicals and mischievous Puck, played with energy and enthusiasm by a talented year 6 boy.

At the dress rehearsal, colourful costumes have brought even more excitement to the performance and the school is grateful to Mad Hatters, Bodiam for helping us out with some characters’ clothes. Parents have been involved too, helping out with sewing and being on hand for a dab of glitter and make up as a final touch.

“It’s exciting because it’s something different to anything we have done before.”, “The funniest part is Bottom because he has to pretend to die and it takes a very long time. I like the music” and “I think it’s really funny at the end and we all laugh, even though we have seen it before.”
