RAFA wings fortnight success

"I want to thank the whole town - their support was terrific".

That's the message to Bexhill from Ken Igglesden, president of Bexhill's branch of the Royal Air Force Association.

He told the Observer how pleased he was with the way Bexhill responded to this year's Battle of Britain appeal which raised in total 3,424 during two weeks fundraising effort.

Money has now come in from different sources around town - the church collection raised 139, Sainsbury's collection was 1,488, house-to-house achieved 396 while the street collection was 1,400.

Ken said: "This has just got us over the 10,000 mark for the year, which we were aiming at, and we still have six weeks to go.

"I thought it was very good. I am very pleased with it, especially as things are hard at the moment - to think that we made all that money in a fortnight. There were some terrific collections by people and I think it went very well.

"I want to thank the whole town for their support - their support was terrific. "Considering the economic climate, to raise that sort of money at this stage I think was excellent."
