However, reports are coming in that the union will be resuming talks later this week to resolve the situation.

Southern posted a statement about the action today: “Whilst we are working to run as many trains as possible, on some routes there will regrettably be no train service at all and on other routes we will only be able to run a reduced service.

“We will have a different timetable operating until the close of service tonight, with some train services ceasing to run earlier than usual, with the exception of trains between Horsham and Three Bridges which will continue to run later.

“Southern would like to apologise for the disruption that this RMT action is causing to our passengers.”

The RMT said today that industrial action involving hundreds of guards on Southern Rail is “solid and united” on its second day as “hundreds of staff continue the fight to put safety before profits on the routes across the franchise.”

The West Sussex Rail Users have sent out a notice saying: “On Wednesday there will be additional evening services between Three Bridges and Chichester and Three Bridges and Horsham. The emergency timetable in Newsletter 2 sent out last Friday showed the last trains from Three Bridges at 17.56 to Chichester, 18.26 to Barnham and 18.56 to Horsham. Those 3 trains will run as shown but there will then be 4 additional trains from Three Bridges to Chichester leaving at 19.26, 19.56, 20.26 and 20.56 calling at all stations except Faygate and arriving Chichester at 20.30, 21.00, 21.30 and 22.00 with intermediate times similar to those shown for the 17.56. In addition there will be 5 later trains from Three Bridges to Horsham at 21.26, 21.56, 22.26, 22.56 and 23.26 calling at all stations except Faygate and arriving Horsham at 21.42 and then every 30 minute to 23.42. There will be connections from Victoria, Blackfriars East Croydon and Gatwick for all these extra trains at times similar to those shown for earlier in the day.

These trains will call at all stations except Faygate and will run in similar timings to the 17.53. Onward connections to Gatwick, East Croydon, Blackfriars and Victoria will be available at Three Bridges.

“On the West Coastway there will be later trains in both directions between Brighton and Bognor. These will leave Brighton at 18.46 and then every 30 minutes until 23.16. In the opposite direction, these extra trains will leave Bognor at 19.20 and then every 30 minutes until 22.50.
