Retiring police officer awarded Queen’s medal

Surrey PC Gaynor Grout, 52, has served the county’s public for 26 years and for the last ten years has been part of the Safer Neighbourhood Team..

She was awarded the Queen’s Policing Medal (QPM) in recognition of her contribution to community policing.

Known as an outstanding investigator, she has received numerous good work reports from senior officers and members of the public for her professionalism, tenacity and positive attitude.

In 2007 she was recognised as the highest performing officer in the division and over the past five years has made over 360 arrests.

Pc Grout said: “It is an absolute honour to receive the Queen’s Policing Medal but to be honest I just do my job to the best of my ability and always give 100 per cent to the community I serve.

“I am due to retire next year and this is the best end I could possibly have to my service with Surrey Police.”

PC Grout is well known in her local community and puts her local knowledge to excellent use.

One example of her efficient and professional work was dealing with a report of a suspected drug dealer whilst out on patrol. Within hours she had visited the suspect’s address, conducted a search, recovered a quantity of drugs, made an arrest and gained an admission of the offence.

Over the years she has demonstrated great bravery having been injured on a number of occasions. She was awarded a Chief Constable’s Commendation for dealing with a violent offender as they tried to escape in a vehicle.

Surrey Police chief constable Lynne Owens, said: “Gaynor is an exemplary neighbourhood officer who puts everything into keeping her local community safe.

“Her arrest rate is extremely impressive but it is her positive attitude, her bravery and her professionalism in dealing with both victims and offenders which is truly inspiring.

“Gaynor has dedicated her whole career to serving the public through excellent frontline policing and I am delighted she has received national recognition for her achievements.”
