Revusic Hall in Ninfield

An afternoon of music hall favourites followed by a slap-up tea with homemade cakes and buns - what's not to love?

Around 70 older residents of Ninfield were happy to pack themselves into the Memorial Hall on Saturday to enjoy old time songs perfomed by the Brighton Revue Company which featured local gal Samantha Hughes, herself part of Ninfield Carnival Committee which organised the event.

The performance was dubbed a "revusic hall" show, and MC for the occasion was Mark Wilkins who was up early that morning trying to learn his lines and hoping to get his timing perfect.

The other performers were Jenny Coulston, Paul Downing, David Rummelle, and on the piano John Gould. They sang all the classic tunes such as Doing the Lambeth Walk, Daisy Daisy, You Made Me Love You, and Down At the Old Bull and Bush.

A songsheet was provided so that members of the audience could join in vigorously before enjoying afternoon tea served by ladies of the Carnival Committee.

Compere Mark Wilkins said: "I think this is an ideal opportunity for the Carnival Committee to give back something to the village - it certainly looks like we have a good turn-out. They are coming in and having a glass or sherry or something soft before enjoying the musical hall entertainment, which is followed by tea and all homemade cakes."

Organiser Julia Hurrell coordinated efforts and thanked Samantha Hughes for putting the show together and chairman's wife Lesley Saunders for her contribution as well as all committee members who worked on the event.
